I'm often asked, "Why did you buy an Archadeck franchise; why not just do it on your own? What makes Archadeck different?" The reasons are many:

The Design Process: The Archadeck design process is unique in the remodeling industry. Archadeck trained me to spend a lot of time with my customers in the design stage. I ask a lot of questions - and make sure all our bases are covered. Sometimes a simple series of questions like: "Do you plan on dining on the deck? Where do you envision the table going? What size is it?" can significantly alter its design. Often the homeowner doesn’t think of these questions until I ask. It's not unusual to spend two hours or more during an initial visit. Archadeck taught me that the most important quality to have in this profession is "listening" and then to design what the customer wants - not what I want. After all, it's their house! Believe it or not that's not the way I'm told many of my competitors do it.

Structuring: Once a homeowner approves a design, it is then electronically transferred to our national drafting department in Richmond, VA (isn't email great!). I draw my designs on a proprietary auto-cad program that's been customized for decks, porches, and rooms. It's the only one of its kind and provides stunning visuals of a homeowner's project. The drafting department structures the drawing and provides me with a complete set of building prints, construction details, and a list of materials. Using these drawings, a building permit is obtained and the lead carpenter's job package is prepared. All Archadeck projects meet or exceed applicable New York State building codes. In the end everyone is happy and nothing is left to chance. That's the Archadeck way!

National Recognition and Credibility: Archadeck is known nationally for its business ethics, quality, custom designs, and professionalism. Our projects have been featured in many magazines. In 2001, Qualified Remodeler Magazine (The remodeling industry's leading trade magazine), ranked Archadeck #1 nationally in the decks category and #8 overall out of 500 national remodelers. We have over 75 offices in the United States as well as offices in the United Kingdom, Japan, and Canada.

A National Support Network: Franchise owners are screened, and if selected, go through a vigorous five-week training program. We meet annually, and stay in touch with each other via an electronic bulletin board. We also have regional meetings and phone each other a lot. We keep each other abreast of ideas, supply/labor issues, construction materials, building techniques, business methods, trade show ideas, sales and marketing successes, and on and on. Franchise owners are equipped with state-of-the-art business systems and custom software. Marketing materials are second to none in the industry. And our national support services in construction, sales, marketing, business systems, and software are only a phone call away. I literally have 4 or 5 business consultants at my disposal. And they have seen virtually everything. This all is returned to my customers in superior knowledge, service, reliability, and quality.

Oversight: I'm the only local contractor you can hire that's responsible to a higher authority. Every customer gets an 800 number to Archadeck headquarters in Richmond, VA. If I’m cutting corners, not following the contract, not performing warranty work, or even if I'm unresponsive and not returning phone calls - a homeowner can report me (Yikes!). Enough bad reports and I can lose my franchise. We don't want that - so I'm very responsive - I also think that it's good business.

An Independent Guarantee of Warranty Performance: Archadeck requires me to complete all my projects and warranty them structurally for 5 years. But, if for some reason I cannot do so (like winning the lottery and retiring – yeah), the National Warranty Corporation satisfies these requirements for my customers’ projects. The National Warranty Corporation is an independent third party company. This Corporation has the funds to ensure jobs are finished and warranties are performed. It even protects my customers’ deposits.
